Morrowind May Modathon Month 2018 – Celebrating 16 Years of Morrowind!

In the bygone days of May, 2002, a small game came out, the third in a relatively unknown series from a developer on the verge of going under. Few indeed had heard of Arena or Daggerfall, but this third game, this Morrowind, would become the savior of a small gaming studio, and unleash a truly new and unique alien world for us to discover, full of strange and unusual sights, with the beat of hostile wings in the air, and the stirring of a breeze from a passing blight-storm. How many times in the last 16 years have we gone through that familiar Seyda Neen? How many times have we done battle on Red Mountain? How many times have we delved the depths of some lost and mysterious Dwemer ruin? And yet, we keep coming back, because Morrowind is home, and there’s no place like home.

Every year as this beloved anniversary comes around again, I’m reminded of that famous quote – “The Road Goes On and On, Down from the Door where it Began, Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with weary feet, Until it joins some larger way, where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say.” – J.R.R. Tolkien

We’ve been down the many roads of Morrowind countless times over the past 16 years, yet for us modders the road stretches ever before us, an endless path of possibilities, the siren’s song of creation leads us ever onward, to reach new heights, to build new worlds, to bring to life the very fire of our imagination. Over the last 16 years we have accomplished a great many things, we have built new provinces and landmasses, expanded the very possibilities of modding with new gameplay mechanics, and finally realized the dream of a multiplayer Morrowind. In the last 16 years, we as a community have released over 23,000 mods for this beloved game of ours, with nearly 600 released just last year alone. I can think of no better way to celebrate the 16th Anniversary of this amazing game, than to mod it and make it even better than ever before, so that 16 years from now, people will still be playing Morrowind, and experiencing new things, due to the tireless efforts of our amazing modding community.

Which is why, this year, we’re once again doing something special, we’re holding once again the 4th Annual Morrowind May Modathon Month, a month-long modding competition for the community. Throughout the entire month of May, participating modders on the Nexus, TAL and GHF who submit Morrowind mods could get a chance to win indie or AAA games each week. Likewise, all participating mods will be entered to win the Mod of the Month Award, with a ton of games as a prize.

Not only that, but all winners will get trailers, special showcases, and numerous video features on Morrowind Modding Showcases. And every mod submitted for the competition will unlock various achievements! There’s over 60 achievements to unlock for everything from releasing a particular kind of mod, to getting a certain amount of downloads, to doing absolutely crazy and unexpected things! And of course, the winner of the Mod of the Month award will naturally get their mod featured in our Mod of the Month series, celebrating the best mods released each month for Morrowind.You can participate by leaving a short note in the mod description page at Morrowind Nexus and GHF that includes “Part of the May Modathon Month”. Remember, this only applies to mods released in May, so let’s all get to modding and make this the 16th Anniversary that Morrowind deserves!

Skyrim – The Reach Release Trailer – A Morrowind Mod

Beyond the edge of the Vorndgad Forest, where the trees thin out and the Karth River’s source can be seen, lies Karthwasten, the most sprawling and prosperous city in The Reach. Conquered in a bloody siege decades ago, the peace between native Redguards and conquering Nords has been an uneasy one; something not helped by the actions of the impetuous King-appointed Jarl, Jona the Ansei-Ender. Banished to Dragonstar, a thane governs in her place over a city that has almost as many secrets as it does traders.

Beyond the city limits lies Karthwasten County. The Lorchwuir Heath is less claustrophobic than the forest but hardly less dangerous; bandits lie in ambush to attack unprepared caravans on the way to Karthwasten, whilst wild beasts and worse roam the low fields and skulk in their caves. Further afield still, atop the rocky mesas in the distance, Reachmen make their camps, shunned by everyone except their own kind.

Will you spend your wealth in Karthwasten’s markets, or amass it outside the walls?

The Skyrim: Home of the Nords Team are proud to present the second release in our efforts at bringing the province of Skyrim to the world of TESIII: Morrowind. It represents the work of many talented modders over the past few years and includes the following features:

– 200+ exterior cells of landscape
– 150+ interior cells, including the massive city of Karthwasten, an explorer’s paradise, as well as dozens of locations for you to loot in classic TES fashion.
– A comprehensively revamped Karthgad and Vorndgad Forest from the first release.
– Specially-modelled exterior and interior assets to flesh out the settlements of the Reach, including Reachmen camps and Direnni ruins.
– NPCs with extensive dialogue, along with and some quests in Karthgad, Karthwasten, and the surrounding wilderness. Additional quests will follow in subsequent patches.
– New books, armor, clothing, weapons, and more.

Morrowind Modding Madness – Week One Challenge

The Madness Begins… Four Weeks, Four Categories, Four Mods, Four Teams of Modders will compete and rise up to try and claim the throne as the ultimate Modding Champions of 2016!

Four Teams of Modders have registered for Morrowind Modding Madness, and now offer themselves as tributes to our Lord Sheogorath. Creative madness will ensue throughout the next four weeks, but only one team can make it to the top, so let’s meet the teams!

Morrowind Modding Madness 2016 – A Team Based Modding Competition

Four weeks, four categories, four mods, only one team of modders will rise up to claim the throne as the ultimate modding champions of 2016! This is Morrowind Modding Madness, a month long modding competition starting December 1st and going through the end of the year where modders form teams, compete and vanquish challenges, and rise through the ranks to become the ultimate modding champions as we put a close on the year of 2016 with all the sweet prizes that entails!

This has been a fantastic year so far for the Morrowind modding community, with an estimated 500 new Morrowind mods being released this year alone. So this December, to end things on a bang, we’re announcing Morrowind Modding Madness, a big modding competition where you have to form teams with at least one other modder and meet the weekly challenge of designing, building, and releasing a full mod every week. This won’t be an easy modding competition, you’ll need to select your teammates carefully and collaborate on your strengths to make it to the end of the competition and win the top prize.

Now a full list of competition details is available at one of the following locations, and you can also register your modding teams while you’re there, but remember to make sure they know they’re on your team! A modding team can be composed of between two and four modders! Best of luck to all contestants, the competition officially starts on December 1st!

Morrowind Modding Interviews – Worsas and Roerich of Skyrim – Home of the Nords

Welcome to the twenty-fifth episode of Morrowind Modding Interviews, a new podcast-like series interviewing modders from around the community! Have you ever wanted to hear your favorite mod authors answer your questions in a semi-conversational interview setting? Now’s your chance!

For this week’s interview, we’re talking with Worsas and Roerich from Skyrim – Home of the Nords about a number of topics related to the ambitious and massive province mod that seeks to add the entire province of Skyrim to the gameworld of Morrowind. Over the course of this interview, we talk a lot about the design and style of the Reach, the regions of Vorndgad Forest and the Druadach Highlands, as well as a lot of the lore, conflicts, and history of this massive swath of western Skyrim. We also discuss when we might see a new release for the project, and we talk a bit about the new cooperation between Project Tamriel and Tamriel Rebuilt.

Morrowind Modathon – The Mod of the Month Awards 2016

Our second annual Morrowind May Modathon Month modding competition, celebrating Morrowind’s 14th anniversary, has officially come to an end, and what a competition it was! We doubled the number of mods released for the competition from last year, with 29 mods submitted in total by 21 different modders, adding new towns, gameplay features, quests, dungeons, and much more to this fantastic game! Without a doubt this was a very successful modding competition, in fact it’s one of the most successful modding competition in Elder Scrolls modding history, which really just goes to show how active the Morrowind modding community really is!

Of course, as with any modding competition, we do have a few winning mods today that were picked by you guys in our popular vote to win the Mod of the Month award! Ultimately, Bal Isra Rising By Dagoth Agahnim came in first for the Mod of the Month award, with Scamp Replacer by PeterBitt and Pherim coming in second and Belial – A Dismal Daedric Companion coming in third. All three are good mods, and there were several other great mods released as part of the Modathon, and you can find a link to a breakdown (with download links) for all mods released as part of the competition here.

Morrowind Modding Interviews – Zini of OpenMW – Progress Interview

In this week’s interview we’re talking with Zini again, the project lead on OpenMW, the new game fan-created game engine for Morrowind, and this is mostly a progress update interview talking about everything that’s changed with OpenMW since we last spoke in December of 2014, as well as the recent multiplayer updates and the recent move to the OpenSceneGraph rendering engine.

Morrowind Modding 2015 – Year in Review Trailer

In 2015 Morrowind turned 13 years old, yet instead of slowing down, the Morrowind modding community was more active in 2015 than in 2014, releasing over 500 new mods created by hundreds of different modders! From new dungeons to landmasses, quests, and everything in between, 2015 was an extremely active year for the community! And not only that, 2015 saw the release of several major projects, like Lyithdonea – The Azurian Isles and Tamriel Rebuilt’s Almalexia, adding countless hours of new content to the game, and projects like ModTown 2015 promise to bring much more in 2016! Even after 13 years, there’s still a lot of love being poured into this amazing game!

This trailer provides a mere snapshot of the mods released in 2015, and we couldn’t possibly cover all of them, but we’ve covered as many as we could in under four minutes!
